The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) says those affected by coronavirus will be able to apply for emergency Universal Credit and receive up to a month’s advance payment up front.
Claimants will be able to access the funds online without physically attending a Jobcentre.
Meanwhile, those unable to attend a Jobcentre appointment because they need to self-isolate have been directed to tell the DWP as soon as possible in order to avoid being sanctioned.
It can take up to five weeks for a person to get their first Universal Credit payment.
If you can’t wait that long for money to live on, the easiest option is to ask for an advance payment as being offered by the DWP
